ScarySauce 1.12 Resource Pack

If you like to get a good scare out of your resource packs, then you might want to take a look at ScarySauce. First of all, the 16x resolution makes this pack playable for practically everyone, so even if you have a low-end computer you don’t need to worry about graphics glitches or having your game slow down on you while you’re loading up new worlds or chunks in existing worlds. Second, it provides a somewhat frightening motif, with lots of darker colors and shades for textures. This is not a Halloween-themed pack, so if that’s what you want, keep looking.

If you instead want something that makes Minecraft look kind of creepy by reducing visibility and blurring the edges around various blocks and textures by giving them all darker outlines, then stick around and keep reading. Almost every texture in the game is made darker by ScarySauce – even things which are normally bright white, like chickens, get a kind of gray cast plastered onto them. Strangely, while everything in the game looks darker, your HUD is actually brightened significantly, making your life, hunger and experience bars all easier to read. Even the hotkey bar has a bold, orange background.

The darker color scheme does allow you to build some intimidating and scary structures if you have a knack for construction, so ScarySauce is perfect for making haunted houses, abandoned castles and similar buildings, even if it doesn’t have a Halloween theme going for it. Even the light given by torches and other sources seems somewhat diminished. Don’t worry though – all light sources provide their normal amount of light, so mobs still won’t spawn even if an area seems dark enough for them to spawn. If you’re in doubt though, just place more torches until you figure out the changes.
